Walter Nicolas Vettel was born Saturday, October 2, 1920 at Caledonia, North Dakota, son of Walter H and O. Frances (Schnoebelen) Vettel.He married Margaret Mary Muller June 1, 1948 at Hillsboro. They farmed east of Cummings (North Dakota), and Walter also worked at the Sorlie Potato House in Cummings for many years. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Walter died Monday at home in Cummings, at the age of 74.

Walter is survived by his wife, Margaret, 3 sons and 3 daughters and their spouses, Elizabeth and Francis Krtizberger, of Hillsboro (ND), William and Ann Vettel, Flushing, Michigan; Robert and Virginia Vettel,of Warner Robins, Georgia; Barbara and Terry West, Hettinger, ND; Beverly and Christopher Dennis, Omaha, Nebraska; Bradley Vettel, Hillsboro; 20 grandchildren; his mother, Frances Vettel, Hillsboro; and 4 brothers and 3 sisters and their spouses, Ed and Dorothy Vettel, Thompson;George and Betty Vettel, Cummings; Jerry and Loraine Vettel, Pine Island, Minnesota; Tom and Karen Vettel, Cummings; Rita and George Franzel, Frazee, Minnesota; LaVonne and Walter Kozojed, Hillsboro; and Janice and James Berry, Mission Viegjo, California. Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter H.; brothers, Carl and Harold; sisters Geneva and Dorothy; and a grandson, Steven.

Walter heiratete Margaret Mary Mueller, Tochter von August Theodore Muller und Maria Elizabeth Hubertina Noterman, am 1. Jun. 1948 in Hillsboro, Traill, North Dakota.
